What’s Inside:
Scope & Sequence:
Map out sequential learning by thinking through what to teach and when
The scope and sequence gives a flexible flow of the school year. You can choose to keep it as it is, or edit it for your own classroom. Monthly and weekly layouts give you options for an overview of the year, or a detailed weekly look.
There are 37 lessons in this scope and sequence.
Engaging Older Beginners Repertoire:
A full collection of repertoire to create the context for learning
All the repertoire in this collection is engaging and developmentally appropriate. Notation, song analysis, sources, translations, additional verses, game or movement directions, and background information are included.
Concept Plans:
Bring content and repertoire together through active and sequential learning activities
Concept plans outline ways to teach musical understandings, knowledge, and skills through a creative and collaborative environment. Each concept plan includes a “big idea” enduring understanding, pre and post-assessments, and connections to National Standards for Music Education.
To help you facilitate the learning activities, each concept plan includes a detailed set of teaching procedures, as well as audio recordings, descriptive video walk-throughs, and teaching visuals.
The activities in the concept plans are designed to progressively build students’ musical knowledge following the scope and sequence and using the musical repertoire.
Monthly Plans:
Explore possibilities for threading lessons week to week
These monthly plans show how the activities from the concept plans can be organized so that learning builds gradually over time. Edit these flexible documents for your school, and enjoy using the “teacher choice” sections to add your own favorite ideas.
Bonus Materials:
Engage students through review projects, and build margin in your schedule with “breathing room” projects.
There are two picture book review projects to help students recall previous knowledge and apply it to a new setting. There are also three optional “breathing room” lessons to refresh your teaching schedule.
